The concept of “leave no one behind” is not being realized with persistence of chronic and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) which are demanding comprehensive integrated palliative care services. However, accessibility remains limited; 85% of Malawi’s population live in rural areas where there is little or no access to palliative care. Consequently many people within reproductive age are dying and leaving the care burden on the elderly, who are vulnerable to poverty, food insecurity, social exclusion, and generally poor living conditions.
